Becoming a Big Brother/Sister for Sibling to Be!

The arrival of a sibling, for all the joy and excitement it brings, signals a readjustment for each family member and, most significantly, for the children involved.  No matter how eagerly the birth of a sibling is anticipated, your child is likely to experience some feelings or behave in ways that make you or him feel uncomfortable.  This class is designed to help with this new transition to their world.

Facilitated by Kara Diaz, Early Childhood Educator, Kara will lead the children through a journey to ease the transition. She will show pictures of the baby’s growth in the womb talking about the changes that take place as the baby grows.  They will talk about “how does the baby eat, go potty, what can they hear….” Then in an age appropriate demonstration, Kara using a mommy doll will talk about how a baby is born. Each child will then have their own baby doll to diaper, feed, and hold. After a break with a light snack the children will watch a Silly Sibling interactive video.  Back at circle time Kara will discuss and demonstrate with the dolls “safety” involving the new baby and siblings roll.  Class will end with a craft and parents will leave with an information packet on Sibling Relationships.
